Broadcast Campaigns

Boomtrain Marketing Engine lets you set up broadcast campaigns for email. This guide will walk you through the steps.

Learn more about the difference between triggered and broadcast campaigns.

Broadcast Emails

    1. Go to Campaigns > Compose Message > Broadcast

    2. Choose the email channel (other options are currently in Beta. Stay tuned!).

    3. Give your campaign a name

    4. Select the audience to send the message to.

    5. Depending on how you control your subscribers, you may opt to include an Exclusion (or Suppression) list.

    6. Compose your message – Add subject line and content in the body of the email. You can build your template from scratch, copy and paste an HTML file, or use the Advanced Editor by clicking the Templates button. To learn more about the Advanced Editor, click here.

    7. When you’re satisfied with the design of your template, you can click the Preview & Test button to see the email fully rendered.

    8. You can even email yourself or your team a test message.

    9. Customize your delivery settings. Choosing to send the email Now will activate your campaign as soon as you click Activate. This is a one time broadcast.

    10. Choosing to send Later allows you to schedule your campaign to activate any time in the future. You can even choose the hour and minute of activation. This is a one time broadcast.

    11. Choosing the Repeat option allows you to send out a daily, weekly, or monthly campaign without needing to manually select the time and day for every send. This is a recurring broadcast.

    12. If you’re using any 3rd party analytics service, you can enter your UTM parameters to allow for easy tracking of your campaigns.

    13. When you’re satisfied with your campaign, you can Save as Draft and return later, or Activate to see your campaign send at its scheduled time.

    14. Once activated, you’re brought to your campaign’s ‘hub’ where you can view statistics on the health of the campaign.

    15. If at any time you want to cancel, archive, deleteduplicate, or edit your campaign, you can do so from the hub. See the Managing Campaigns section below for more information.

Managing Campaigns

Boomtrain Marketing Engine (BME) provides a couple of capabilities for users in order to manage campaigns. You might want to;

  • Edit a draft campaign or a campaign that was already sent.
  • Archive the campaigns that are no longer in use.
  • Delete a campaign completely from BME (This action is irreversible).
  • Disable a campaign from being sent out (Campaigns cannot be disabled after the send begins. However, you can still use this feature up to 5 minutes before the send begins).
  • Duplicate might be the most used feature when it comes to managing campaigns in BME. You can create an identical campaign from your Scheduled, Sent and Archived campaigns, then modify the duplicated campaign to save as a draft or activate.

Let’s dive into more details.. Here is how you can use those features ;


  1. Navigate to Campaigns. You can choose any campaign to edit except Archived campaigns (If you want to edit Archived campaigns, you can duplicate it and then edit the copy). You can only delete campaigns that are still Drafts. Click the campaign and scroll to the bottom where you can see the Delete button.Boomtrain: Machine Intelligence Built for Marketers 2016-04-28 11-52-54

Broadcast Campaigns: Liquid Tags

Boomtrain tracks some customer properties for your business apart from the ones you pass via integrations or append via .csv files.

Customer properties can be inserted as ‘Attributes’ to any email message you choose to send to customers. This makes your message highly personal and scalable in nature and is one of the key features that can be used for higher engagement.

Liquid Variables /Template Examples:

  • Customer Property Attribute : {{first_name}}, {{country}}, {{plan}}, {{offer}}

On the message editor, you can customize the content by adding attributes. You can add them both to subject lines as well as the message body of the editor. These tags are also available in the Advanced Editor.


Schedule broadcast messages to ensure that they reach your customers immediately or within a specific window (simple date and time). Ensure your messages do not go out at odd hours and disturb your customers.

[Note: Message delivery times are determined by your website’s or app’s time zone and will differ if your customers are spread over various time zones. To accommodate this, you can duplicate your triggered messages and schedule them at different times.]
