Morning Friends! Nick and Chris here. We are very excited to share our big news today. With the help of some awesome investors who share our ambitious vision, we’ve successfully raised another round of funding for Boomtrain. We’ve not been much on the public scene with press or marketing initiatives, well, ever; so we wanted to take this opportunity to share our personal perspective on our growth, values and future.

The Boomtrain ride so far…

We started Boomtrain just a little over 3 years ago as part of AngelPad. As is true with many early stage companies, Boomtrain’s initial vision has evolved and improved over time (more on that in a moment). It’s been nothing short of an incredible journey.

You might have read our story on those early days, and a lot has happened since then. The product has realized the vision to to become a simple but powerful machine learning and personalization platform across not just e-mail, but also on-site and mobile. The team has exploded to 45 incredibly inspiring and talented people. We’re in awe of them every day. We have an amazing group of partners who afford us new horizons. And, of course, we serve over 120 innovative enterprise customers who make up the burgeoning Boomtrain community.

One of the most exciting parts of our journey so far has been in pushing the boundaries of what our customers, and in turn their customers, expect in their daily communications. We firmly believe that all users deserve to be treated as individuals – not cohorts, not segments. In practice, this means powering content and product recommendations tailored to each and every individual for incredible (and more human) user experiences.

Around this office, this means expecting the best from ourselves and teams. We don’t hope — we #gets$*!tdone.

That doesn’t mean we bury our personalities, though. Quite the opposite! We let them fly high and proud.

We all became FISH:

We move Forward, focus on Innovation, take courage to Speak, and prioritize Health of mind, body, and systems. Because nothing is quite as stunning as so many moving parts headed in one direction. We are that school of FISH.


Where this train is headed… (aka: why we raised more funding)

(1) Machine Learning is hard ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. It’s hard to do really well at massive scale in a way that actually drives business value. That’s why Netflix and Facebook have huge teams and millions in resources dedicated to getting it right. That’s also why Netflix couldn’t just use Facebook’s “social graph” to make awesome movie recommendations. It’s complex tech, but like any great technology company, we aim to make it simple. Our vision is to make this same technology available to every company, and in a way that adapts to each customer and their needs. In this way, every company can treat and talk to their customers like individuals.

(2) The audience journey is tricky, too — and we want to make sure we’re making every step of it personal by building upon our delivery channels, including email, mobile and web. We expect Boomtrain to be the force in machine learning for marketers and their customers, while working seamlessly with our partners’ technology.

(3) We’re at the ready attracting top talent to continue giving our customers the best service possible. They say friends are the family you choose; in that case, we say teammates are the family you choose-most-wisely (and, yes, must pay). As we continue to grow, our people and our customers are the future of this company, and the future is long and bright.

(4) We want to be the best at building technology that changes the way marketers understand and communicate with their audience. And we want to be the best at building and growing a company culture that inspires everyone’s personal best. It’s going to take a lot of late nights, occasional mistakes, and big wins. But we got this — it’s why we’re here.
